Celebrate tradition and craftsmanship with these genuine handmade greeting cards featuring assorted spiritual and symbolic designs. These cards are crafted from Lokta paper, made using the bark of the Daphne cannabina (Papyracea) plant, locally known as “Lokta.” This plant grows naturally at altitudes of 2,000 to 3,500 meters in the Himalayan regions of Nepal. Lokta plants regenerate naturally within 6–8 years after harvesting, and the bark is collected with deep environmental responsibility, helping preserve Nepal’s fragile forest ecosystem. The process of making the paper involves cooking the bark twice, followed by chopping and beating it with wooden hammers—an age-old technique passed down through generations. Once the paper is cut, then a dried, skeletonized, and colored Bodhi leaf is fixed to the center, stamped with a sacred symbol, and surrounded with moss.
Lokta paper has been used for centuries in Nepal and is renowned for its durability. Ancient Hindu and Buddhist manuscripts, royal records, and sacred texts were traditionally written on this paper, many of which still survive today. By purchasing this product, you are not only receiving a unique, eco-friendly greeting card but also supporting the livelihoods and socio-economic development of rural communities in Nepal.
Each card is blank inside for creating custom messages. They are 6" x 4.5" and come with an envelope made of the same Lokta paper.
