Palo santo (Bursera graveolens) is a tree that’s native to Peru, Ecuador, and other South American countries. It grows in dry tropical forests and produces very fragrant resin. In Spanish, palo santo means “holy wood.”
For thousands of years, the wood, resin, and oil from Bursera graveolens have been used for medicinal purposes, mainly to treat pain and stress. It’s also said to clear negative energy.
Palo santo wood is able to be burned with much less smoke than white sage with just as much ability to clear the energy of a space and of a person. When using palo Santo, do not leave the flame burning: light it, and once the flame catches, blow it out. Move through a space with the smoldering stick, hold stones or other objects over the smoke, or pass the smoking stick over and around the body to clear energy.Share
